Cooking With Your Kids, Not Just For Your Kids

I love that there is a trend in kids learning to cook.  What better way to learn the basics in the kitchen AND have fun at the same time?  I was inspired to write this blog when I was chatting with my friends’ 9 year old daughter and she was telling me that her favorite Christmas gifts this year were a collection of kitchen gadgets and utensils.  Her favorite thing to make was cupcakes and who doesn’t love a great cupcake!  I whispered to her that she can come cook for me!  lol

Her mom even plans out simple meals that she can prepare for the family a couple of days during the week.  What a great idea, Mom!

I sometimes take cooking classes at a local cooking school and was intrigued to see so many classes in their catalog that are for kids.  This is exciting to me because I was beginning to think cooking was a lost art.  I’m not gourmet chef by any means but I do think it’s important to learn the basics to be able to put together simple meals.

I recently came across a blog that I have fallen in love with.  It’s called Mommy’s Kitchen and has simple and delicious meals that Mom and Dad can prepare with the kids.  One of my favorites is a really fun idea for Valentine’s Day…a heart shaped homemade pizza!

Another thing I recently came across to make cooking fun for kids was this very colorful and fun is this dinnerware collection from www.ecostylishhome.com.  I.Love.These!!  Eco friendly and super cool!

You’re welcome, Kami! I agree that I think the kids are more willing to try new and different foods too if they help prepare them! I’m so glad your daughter is having fun with her play cooking utensils!! That’s wonderful!

One of my sons wants to be a chef and he is always inventing different ways to season and group different foods together. I agree with another post that kids in the kitchen = healthier adults. Definitely going to check out the blog and dishes website you mentioned.
