What’s in a name? Top Baby Names

I always find it fun to check out the list of top baby names when they come out.  Yahoo had one out this week.  Not surprisingly, I have family members and friends that have children with almost all the names on the top 10 of both boys and girls!  We always want to make sure our child’s name is unique enough that not everyone else has the same name, yet not odd enough that it will “traumatize” the child all his or her life!  lol!  Once you’ve got that name picked out, why not set it in silver with our cute hand stamped Mothers Jewelry?

To take a glance at this year’s top 10…check it out here:

For a fun twist….here is the list of the top weirdest celebrity baby names!

Cool Diaper Bags

Recently, I was chatting with some of my girlfriends, who are all moms, and we got on the subject of all the gear new parents have to carry around everywhere they go.  Of course, that conversation led to diaper bags and how they have progressed.  We were all so glad to have some cool diaper bags to choose from these days…not just the cartoon character bags of yesterday.  Today’s selection of cool diaper bags lets moms be stylish and trendy while out an outing with baby!  We were chatting about how they look more like purses than diaper bags.  I love this!  It makes the investment in a couple of cool diaper bags worthwhile because they will double as purses too.

Another awsome thing we discussed is how dads can be cool too with the selection of hip dad bags that are out.  Dads won’t be stuck with carrying his wife’s feminine bag!  They range from camo to plaid and everything in between.  He will love them, guaranteed.

Almost spring…

I feel that spring is right around the proverbial corner….yet it’s not quite here yet.  While we do our waiting that seems to take forever every year, I got to thinking of things we can do to keep everyone entertained.  Kids can be cooped in the house for way too long and literally, drive you crazy, right?!  We just went to the park this afternoon and it was, shall we say, a very “brisk” walk! Yes, brrr, that wind was cold!   I’m not so sure that was a good idea or not.  What to do?  Here are some ideas that hopefully will get them to step away from the video games and get the creative juices flowing.

Get going-Load the kiddos in the car and go somewhere you’ve never been in your community.  Maybe there is a new aquarium in the city, a movie, a science museum.

Get cooking!-kids love to help out in the kitchen and what more perfect a day than when it’s too cold out or rainy.  Crack open those cookbooks and let them pick something out.  Maybe a trip to the grocery will be in store first but that’s ok too.

Get creating-try a new craft project.

Get competitive-what about all those games carefully stored away.  Have a fun family game day or game night!  We love game nights!!

Get socializing-let them have a sleepover with their best buddies.  They can entertain each other…;)

I hope this helps stir up some of your own ideas.  Share them here!  We’d love to hear what other families do to stay entertained until the weather cooperates.

I found a great blog from Redbook on some more great ideas!

Forever changed

After coming off the high of a wonderful weekend last weekend with the art show, it’s been a rough week here in Geauga County.  I live in a semi-rural area, a suburb of Cleveland and about 10 min from Chardon, Ohio.  A town that will forever be changed.  A community forever changed.  Before last Monday, Chardon, Ohio was just another small town in Ohio, a suburb that was most known for being the ”snow belt”.  Chardon is an idyllic town, with a beautiful town square full of antique shops and intimate restaurants.  No one ever dreamed this would happen here.  These sorts of things happen elsewhere.  That is changed now.  Three high school students are dead and 2 others injured, one paralyzed.  The gunman was a fellow student.  He has a history of violence in his family and bullying at school.  When are these things going to change?  When will it become cool NOT to bully?  I feel like it will change in this school but there are millions of other schools all over the country and sadly, this probably will not be the last time we hear of something like this.

Today student Danny Parmertor was laid to rest.  Thousands of people from the community came out and formed a human chain to keep protestors out and let the family bury their son in peace.  It does my heart good to see a community so supportive of their own, yet this is all so heartbreaking at the same time.  All three students were on the cusp of becoming adults.  Ready to find their way in this world.  They were good kids.  Yet, their lives were snuffed out way too early.  It may be controversial, but for some reason, my heart goes out to the gunman too.  A kid struggling to find his way in this world too.  A tortured soul whose parents were not there for him.  A soul that possibly could have benefited from someone just reaching out to him.  I struggle with this.

A good friend of mine has a wonderful website and blog dedicated to bullying awareness and prevention, www.remembermegiftboutique.com.  I encourage everyone to take a moment and reflect on what we can do as individuals to reach out to a teen in need of a smile, a hug, a friend.  I don’t know if this would have changed the circumstances of this week but you never know.   You just never know.

Successful Weekend

Whew, finally a great art show weekend.  I sure needed that.  This last year has been really really tough on artists because art, jewelry, etc, is not a necessity so when the economy is down, the trickle down effect kicks in.  When I’m not making money, I’m surely not spending it.  The weather was decent, which could be tricky in Cleveland in February.  You just never know!  All the artists did well and we were all in a bit of shock but happy!

I believe that people are getting antsy and a little bored with being conservative and they are ready to bring some joy into their lives, whether that be buying a small piece of jewelry or a floral arrangement or even a beautiful piece of pottery for their home.  A day out an a beautiful art show, a great lunch, and doing some good via the art show promotor’s agenda of raising money for charities.

On to other things, I will be continuing to load more product on the new www.sweetbabystylishmom.com template that will launch sometime in March!  SOOOO excited to show you that!

www.sweetandsassygirl.com has some new pastel colored Spring shabby chic frames coming soon as well as the Spring-Summer line of Jelly the Pug boutique clothing for girls!  Oh my gosh….they are cute cute!!  Wait till you see the beautiful shade of blue-yellow….LOVE!

Lastly, the new line for www.vintagemoonjewelry.comwent over very well during the art show!  I am very pleased and excited.  It prompted me to purchase a template to get the ball rolling on that…..busy,

busy!

Hope you a fabulous week!

Jen
